Project Evergreen is a series of public programs and municipal actions in Hardwick Township and the greater Northwestern Warren County region of New Jersey. The goal of Project Evergreen is to educate and promote sustainable/green individual, business, and municipal practices.

This project is comprised of a team of historic preservationists, land and water conservationists, regional/slow food activists, educators, community volunteers, and municipal recreation initiatives. Project Evergreen’s public programs and partnerships, across multiple disciplines, will serve as a model for rural NJ municipalities developing sustainable community development and for using the Internet to build regional connectivity.

Our website is in its infancy, so please note that it is a "work in progress." We are also interested in developing an eblast for sharing sustainability news so sign up now and send us your suggestions for how to make the website better! We will try to address your ideas!

What is our environmental footprint?
Hardwick Township will deliver sustainability education programs for N Warren and southern Sussex Counties. Hardwick Township has committed to sustainability and resource conservation for decades; as part of the highlands region, and the Skylands region, we, by geographic default, bear a special responsibility to preserve water, land, and resources for the State. We have a significant role in water quality maintenance as it relates to the entire state of New Jersey; and every other issue relating to sustainability stems out of water and land. Globally, we are a case and point for how rural and urban are interconnected.

The goal for Project Evergreen is to make fun the process of reducing consumption and expanding one’s vocabulary of sustainable living. Sustainability and historic preservation are linked; so the Vass Farmstead site will partner with local organizations in order to cross-pollinate “preserving for the future.” Check out our Events and Programs link for information about our programs!

Project Evergreen was one of 4 projects on NJ State to receive funds from the Wal-Mart Foundation to develop public sustainability programs. This photograph was taken in Trenton in June 2009 when the funding winners were announced.
